re: Rogers Internet Usage Cap

Ok. Pause. Breathe.

Ok. For the past three years (since February 2005) Rogers has had usage allowances on their internet packages. If you have Extreme, it's 95gb, if you have Express (most common) you have 60gb.

For the past three years, if you exceeded this, you'd get a phone call and/or a letter, telling you that you exceeded, and there was a possibility you'd be cut off if you continued.

THE USAGE LIMITS ARE THE SAME!

The only thing that changed is that now, if you go over, they'll charge you.

Basically, if Rogers has never called or informed you that you've gone over your limit in the past three years, you have nothing to worry about.

Also, 60gb is a very, very large amount of information. It's the equivalent of 4500 or so 10 minute, 15mb youtube video (which is on the large size for a youtube video, on average).

So, this is my 'music you should at least try listening to, because if you like it, you'll love it' post.

First off, I'd like to extend a thanks to my boyfriend, who totally and utterly widened my spectrum of music.

Also, these are all in alphabetical order, because I just went through my itunes music folder.

Also, also, none of these bands sound like My Chemical Romance. No, srsly. Don't let the icon fool you.

I'm just including one or two songs from each band, but if you like it, drop me a comment, although most of these bands are pretty indie, so you should support them by buying their albums.

Comment if you're downloading, all via YSI.

1. Battles. This is their song called Atlas. Battles is a math band from New York City. No, srsly. Also, check out their music video on youtube for this song. So cool.

2. Animal Collective. This is Who Could Win A Rabbit.

3. The Cliks. This is their single Oh Yeah. This is one of my favorite bands, and the only (?) transgender artist signed to a major label. Go Lucas. I've seen them live twice, and they rock my world.

4. Deerhoof. This is Kidz Are So Small. This band is on crack.

5. Feist. Have two! 1234 and Mushaboom. Yeah, one of those was an Ipod commercial. She's awesome, and Canadian!

6. Final Fantasy/Owen Pallett. This is This is the Dream of Win and Regine. Another Canadian. If you like violin in rock music, check it out.

7. Joel Plaskett with Extraordinary. I have a good amount of Canadian music.

8. The Mars Volta. Have three, because it's sort of hard to get a hold of this band in one song. Actually three doesn't even really do it. Roulette Dares, L'Via Vaquez and Inertiatic ESP. Mars Volta is a progressive experimental rock band that was created by two of the members of At The Drive In. This is one of my favorite bands, but it's not everyone's taste.

9. Mother Mother with Dirty Town. Another Canadian band.

10. Ok Go, with Do What You Want. This is the band that was famous for that youtube video with the treadmills. I bought their CD. They kickass. They have an awesome sense of humor, and are so creative.

11. Raine Maida. This is Yellow Brick Road. Raine Maida is the lead singer of Our Lady Peace, another Canadian band. They've been around since 1992, but Raine Maida just released a solo album, this was the single. It's a little softer than the rest of the album, but the whole CD is amazing.

12. Rilo Kiley with More Adventurous. This band is beautiful and touching and makes me want to sing and make movies using all their stuff. They were also featured on the Angel: The Series soundtrack, possibly as the band that did Fred's theme.

13. Silversun Pickups with Lazy Eye. I haven't listened to all of their stuff yet, but this was their single, and I'm in love. This is sort of what I want my band to sound like, but faster. ...right.

14. Sparklehorse with a cover of Wish You Were Here from the movie Lords of Dogtown. This moment in the movie really made it for me, and this song was perfect for it. The rest of their stuff is also awesome.

15. Stephen St. Pierre with three songs. And So We Talked About The Year, Dorothy (this one is older) and Nurse. Steve is a friend of mine, who I've sold merch for, and watched play a hundred times, and I'm a little biased, because well, that's my boyfriend on drums in those songs, but sh. For CD's of this guy, just let me know, because I'm selling them. Sort of.

16. Sufjan Stevens with Flint (For the Unemployed and Underpaid). This guy is doing an album for each of the fifty states, apparently. This one is Michigan. It's beautiful and heartbreaking.

17. Wilco, with two songs. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart and Impossible Germany. Alt country, makes me happy.
